Sugary Drinks Cause Early Menstruation

According to a new research published in Human Reproduction on Jan 28, led by Karin Michels (ScD, PhD), Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA), early menstruation could be caused by
sugary food and drinks.
He said
"Our study adds to increasing concern about the wide-spread consumption of sugar-sweetened drinks among children and adolescents in the USA and elsewhere. The main concern is about childhood obesity, but our study suggests that age of first menstruation (menarche) occurred earlier, independently of body mass index, among girls with the highest consumption of drinks sweetened with added sugar. These findings are important in the context of earlier puberty onset among girls, which has been observed in developed countries and for which the reason is largely unknown".

This could be risky because girls who have their periods early could also develop breast cancer at later stages. Hence, their research which took place from 1996 to 2001 established that girls who took sugary drinks have increased risks of early
menstruation. This is because sugar sweetened food has higher glycemic index than natural sugar in fruits. This high value increases our insulin level. It also increases and  alters the sex hormones resulting in earlier period in young age.

Although sugary drinks are major causes of early periods in girls, other factors can determine the onset of menstruation

*Gene( The age at which your mother started menstruation can tell you your possible time)
*High caffeine intake( coffee, cola contains caffeine
*Birth weight
*Physical activity
*Race or ethnicity
*Height.
