In their effort to safeguard the health of the Nation, The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and
Control (NAFDAC) arrested Prakarsh Mohinani, an Indian and Mr. Chibuike Onuoha. The two were arrested on Saturday in Rivers State over the importation and distribution of fake and unregistered drugs
in the State
Okonkwor Anselm(Public Relation Unit) disclosed how the arrest was made. He said the leader of the NAFDAC team, Mr. Folorunso Idowu, a Chief Regulatory Officer, alongside his men arrested the Indian with several cartons of unregistered confectionery worth millions of naira.
According to him, his arrest in one of the HOTELS IN Port
Harcourt was based on a tip-off.
The statement reads, “The confectionery arrested along
with the Indian included products such as ‘Maliange’ mushroom
pieces and stems used as spices for delicacies such as fried and
jollof rice among others.
“Our team also sealed two other shops that were selling fake
and unregistered confectioneries which included the ‘Maliange’
mushroom pieces and stems at the popular Fruits and Vegetables
market along Kaduna Street, D/Line in Port Harcourt. The Indian claimed he bought the products from a supermarket
in Port Harcourt but could not produce any receipt to back up
such a claim nor take us to the shop where he claimed he
bought the products.”
The arrested men will be transfered to the Lagos branch of NAFDAC for further investigation
