Telecom Masts are Not Harmful to Human Health-NCC

There have been debates over the effect of non ionising radiation from various telecommunication masts hosted by network providers all over the country. There have been suggestions that it could lead some diseases such as
cancer, severe headache.

However, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has stated that telecoms masts are not dangerous to human health. The commission’s Deputy Director of Consumer Affair Bureau, Dr. Femi Atoyebi, said this over the weekend while speaking at the Consumer Town Hall Meeting organised by the NCC at Iwo in Osun state.

He said: “Research has not in any way shown that telecom masts discharge harmful radiation that is harmful to human health. He said masts antennas are set so high from the ground all in the bid to eliminate human contact and remove any risk of
human exposure.”

According to him, the World Health Organisation (WHO) also
gave the assurance and certification that telecom masts are not dangerous to human health.
